Your Delphiniums are very beautiful, no one could argue with that, as they all are usually in gardens that grow them to perfection... but it seems to come at quite a price, too high for me personally, in that anything that moves out there has to be ''despatched''.. in order to grow these ornamentals, which no one really needs.. our gardens do need wildlife and that includes slugs and snails - food for something else.. it makes me question just who the ''pests'' are at times...

I lost my Delphiniums last year, never returned,  don't care if they've been eaten or whatever... I prefer a clear conscience, and this is why I grow so many roses because I don't have to kill anything, not even aphids...

This isn't meant to be a sermon, but I hope newer gardeners enthralled by the site of Delphiniums, don't get encouraged [conned] into buying chemicals to destroy your garden creatures, just so you can show these off or because they've cost you a few bob...  really, it takes a different mindset I know, but I believe it's worth it in the end..

Sorry to disagree nultyp., but light is essential for many seeds to germinate.
How can you lie there and think of England

No problem,..many plants like to go through a stratification stage,..meaning cold period/dark period,..you will find that Delphinium seeds produce seedlings quicker if this is applied,..of course many seeds need light to germinate,..many also need less light exposure to ensure germination,..its six of one and half a dozen of another,..sowing the seeds indoors needs conditions different to outdoors sowing.

Marlorena, you could argue this about any other kind of plant grown for its attraction, what about the fact that be and butterflies love delphiniums!  As for costing a few bob, my garden over many years collecting has cost thousands, (I dont go on Holidays, or hardly ever go out) so we spend our money on the garden.  If I have spent months growing veg, sorry am not going to let a slug or snail eat it.  I do have a wildflower are in my garden, use rocks logs, for the wildlife, but as some people loath pidgeons and seagull, I am going to desied who I want in my garden.
