When to plant Wisteria??
in Plants
Hello! Thank you in advance for your help!
I have just moved and am planning on planting a Wisteria to grow up the South-West facing front of my house. I always grew up with one in my parents garden
I have researched varieties and I reckon that Wisteria sinensis 'Prolific' looks to be a good option in terms of how quickly it grows/flowers etc and the size of the flowers (although happy for other suggestions!). I have also got all my steel wire etc ready to build my supports!
My question is WHEN do you suggest planting it? I have seen some answers online that suggest you can either plant in Autumn or Spring - does anyone have any suggestions for this? I know that ideally you want to plant one in Spring when you can see if it actually has flowers, but I am impatient(!) so just wondered if anyone can give advice on planting now, or if it really is best to wait.
Many thanks,
Olivia

Autumn and spring areoften suggested because it's easy for plants to establish in those two seasons. Ground is generally favourable, and overhead conditions mean some rain, and some warmth.
General opinion is to plant one when it's already in flower, as they can be a bit slow to get to that stage, and many people get frustrated with the wait.
I'd have thought most good garden centres and nurseries would stock them. Failing that, there are good online nurseries which will have them. If you google the plant, it should bring up a selection of specialists.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
