Houseful here as well. I remember being on Exmoor in the mid 70’s, the ground was like a carpet with them, you couldnt avoid treading on them.
Its the hot summers that bring them out, but where are they in the cold summers.

And where were they when my plants were covered in aphids earlier in the summer ?!
  • Came home today after a week away and was showered with ladybirds when I opened the front door. There are always some that hibernate in the porch there but this year the numbers are crazy!

Apparently, most of the ones that come indoors are the Harlequin variety, our native ones hibernate outside.

That's good to know.  Won't feel so guilty about the squished ones.  Not seen many yet but we do have serious problem with cluster flies this year.

Ah - noticed loads yesterday - on the patio door and on a potted Acer.
My garden and I live in South Wales.
  • Not seen or heard of any great numbers here this year - perhaps we need a northerly wind to blow them in our direction.

Have just been out to fish one out of the bird bath and place it on a handy leaf. Quite amazed at my powers of observation at seeing, through the kitchen window, a tiny red dot floating in the water !

In Dordogne we have a problem with hibernating ladybirds and cluster flies every autumn.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
