Fence Panels Climber support

DosDos Posts: 4

Hello All

I have a fence concrete posts with feather board 6x6 panels. I is 5 panel long and I am planning to cover it with a climbing rose over 3 of the panels and winter flowering Jasmine over the rest.

I was planning to fix vine eyes into the posts and run horizontal Gripple wires for support. I don’t have much experience with climbers and not even sure what distance to leave between the wires.

I would appreciate any advise or recommendations.

I use bean netting, not the cheapest as this rots, but any good netting will do. I use a simple staple gun to fix the netting to the fence. Works fine here.

I find drilling into concrete fence posts hard work. You need a powerful drill and strong masonry drill bits.
Alternatively you can buy clips that clamp onto the posts to attach the wires, but they're more expensive than vine eyes.

I don't grow climbing roses, but at a guess I'd suggest approx 18 inches between your horizontals.

I have the clips that clamp to the posts and have a wooden trellis attached to them. The beauty of this was when I had to have the fence panel replaced it could be slid out/in without touching the trellis.
