Eating weed killer how do some people come out with such rubbish. It is sprayed onto the grass weeds you are not eating the grass. I don't mind how you do things but if given the choice of digging every root out which you will find impossible or once over with the sprayer and wait 5 weeks I know which I would choose.
Right, weed killer. I have been doing some research. It seems that if I were to apply glyphosate to the grass now I would be safe to plant crops in Spring.
From what I have read, once applied, any residual weed killer is designed to evaporate after 24-72 hours after application, some say it evaporates on contact with the soil. The chemicals that reach and kill the roots are designed to degrade in days or weeks depending on the soil.
With this in mind, and the fact that really, I won’t be using my plot over winter - I’d like to think that and residual chemicals will have degraded by Spring. The weed killer idea is still on the table for now.
In lighter news, I received an email this morning to tell me the plot has been strimmed! I can’t get down to work on it until the weekend but I might pop down later to have a look (and to see how many garden bags I might need to take for the cuttings!) 😊
I had a similar problem this time last year, my daughter moved into a house that had been empty for eighteen months, with a similar garden state, I sprayed it off with Glyphosate and left it for a month every weed died off and it was dug over and left rough for the winter.
I popped down to the allotment today, still looks more like a meadow than a plot but on the plus side, it looks a lot tidier than it did. Hoping to get down tomorrow to make a start as long as the wind has died down a bit 🍃
It does @barry island. And with it absolutely throwing it down non stop today I haven’t been able to make a start. By the time I get back there it will have all grown back up 🙈😆
