Dig up dahlias early?
Hello, I'm not very good with dahlias, so need some advice about storing them. I need to dig them up now. However, advice suggests not doing this until they've been frosted a couple of times. Will they be harmed if I dry them out now? There are still one or two flowers on them. Maybe I should put them in pots for a few weeks?
Carmarthenshire (mild, wet, windy). Loam over shale, very slightly sloping, so free draining. Mildly acidic or neutral.

Can you put them in the garden, they probably haven’t flowered well because they’re in pots, the tubers grow big through a summer. Unless you have really huge pots, I don’t think they do well in small pots.
Depending on where you live, you can leave them out in them garden, just put a pile of mulch over the top.
As far as I understand it, the only reason to leave them until the frosts is to ensure the tubers bulk up as much as possible. Most of mine are several years olden have been regularly split so are already substantial.
I'd say go for it.
