Cornus Midwinter Fire

Has anyone found that Cornus Midwinter Fire tends to sucker? Mine is starting to block access routes, coming up between stepping stones and has got into my neighbours garden. I've grown lots of other types of Cornus and they layer themselves. I will sadly have to kill it next spring and will try to grow in a large container instead.

    They do sucker, but I find  they're easy to dig up and tansplant/give away/ sell. they don't have a difficult root system.

    I guess that would be ok in open ground but mine goes under paving and into my neighbours. She's not happy and I don't want to dig up my path. Shame because it looks fantastic in winter.

    That is a shame, but understandable Pomona. However,  on the bright side we have one in a pot (simply because I never get around to planting so many things!) and it has done nicely so far. No suckering here either, also a cutting has taken. I also thought it was one that was not overly vigorous  and did not sucker readily. Have not found it sucker in its pot (yet) either.

    I have grown 4 varieties of cornus for the colourful stems and they all sucker with Midwinter Fire being the worst offender in my experience and elegantissima being the least.  You may need to think about relocating yours to a site where it will be less disruptive or planting it in a pot.   Even so, little bits of it will still appear from scraps left behind for quite a while.  Easy enough to dig up and pot or bin as you see fit.

    Thanks all. I have been growing Sibirica and Elegantissma for 30 years and never had either sucker, only layer.  Because the plant is close to the fence, I feel that if I move it a lot of root will get left under my neighbours. Better I think to kill it systemically and hope that reduces regrowth on neighbours side . But I will to try take up some suckers and grow on in a pot.
