Propagation of cacti & succulents is either easy or very difficult subject to the particular species involved .

@fxv300 I’ve noticed that you only ever put one of your YouTube links on here, do you get commission whenever anyone clicks on the links?

Many of the more choice and rare cacti we used to grow in N.Yorkshire were exceptionally hard to propagate .
Many were nigh on impossible from seed , and stem cuttings in most cases was not feasible .

@Paul B3  I remember the very first cactus nursery I ever saw was come across by chance on the Pickering road to Scarborough - Cruck Cottage Nursery I think it was called. Had never seen such a variety of plants in one place. I bought about half a dozen and there started my fascination with them which lasted for many a long year. That was back in the early seventies.

Well well hogweed ; I remember Cruck Cottage nursery on the N.Y.Moors !

Between 1978-81 I worked at Whitestone Nurseries near Thirsk ; a major cactus nursery in its day . Not far from the above .

With horror I also remember the Winter of 1980/81 when we lost about 80% of all the plants , including most specimens in the private collection . Temperatures fell to -18C inside the greenhouses for five consecutive nights in January ; that was with the heating on ! :o

In hindsight , not the best place for a cactus nursery , at the base of a 1000' escarpment called Sutton Bank . In Winter cold air would fill the valley we occupied dropping the temperatues to 'unusual' levels .
    I know most cacti can take quite a chill , but -18 ???? , yikes !!
