Creating a low compact Hawthorn Hedge?

Hello

We recently collected some Hawthorn seeds which are planted in a container to over winter, so we will probably have some plants growing next spring, and I was considering making a hedge from them.

Is it possible to prune a Hawthorn hedge so that it stays small and compact, say 3ft high and maybe 2-3ft deep?

I see no reason why not, but since Hawthorn Hedges in the countryside are usually quite large, I thought maybe I should ask someone knowledgeable for their opinion...

Thanks for your advice  :)

Oh yes, a lot of rural cottages had hedges just like that around their gardens back in the day ... just keep it regularly clipped so that it makes lots of little sideshoots rather than long wavy ones and it'll be thick and green and full of little birds' nests in a few years' time  :)

keep it trimmed regularly and it'll end up quite thick and inpenatrable
