Espalier - Camellias

Hi, I have a customer who has 3 camellias. They are 4 years old. My customer would like to to espalier the camellias? What time of the your can this process begin?

    I've never seen it done, and I'm not sure it can be done successfully. 
    Fan trained yes, but I don't think they lend themselves to espalier training.

    Never done it myself either but there are instructions on the ehow website. 

    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
