Growing Bamboo

Hi
Can anyone tell me if growing bamboo
is easy and is it agressive ?

Many/most varieties of bamboo are invasive ... some extremely so.

We get several enquiries each each year asking how to eradicate bamboo that they have planted in error or which has invaded their garden from a neighbouring property.

Bamboo varieties described as clumping are said to be less invasive than others, but I would suggest caution.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

  • Mine is pretty and well behaved, I've had it for many years and it is still a neat clump.
Unfortunately that is no help at all, as I don't know what sort it is - I picked up a throw out from the school's rubbish dump, nursed it back to health and then it flowered and died.
Mine is a seedling from that plant!
I think it  may be a Fargesia, but it is not as tall as some of them, though they are apparently one of the least risky regarding invasion.

    Hi Buttercupdays
Going to forget it then, did look earlier and some have taken over foundations on properties through the root system.
They sound abit risky has some eBayer advertised has being aggressive, selling small plug but in the picture there’s looked out of control.
