Terracotta Pots for Bulbs

Recently Monty has been potting up bulbs. He has used a terracotta type bowl for some of them. Shallow but wide. Where can I get these from.  I have searched high and low.

I find Garden Centres, and even diy stores, all have them. That's where I get all mine from.  The bigger 'alpine' pans migth be harder to get, but anywhere that sells terracotta pots usually the shallow stocks bulb pots too. You can use ordinary pots too :)
Failing that - I'm sure you can get them easily enough online.

I looked everywhere for some nice wide, shallow alpine pans in terracotta and finally found some 50cm wide ones at the garden centre at Bodnant Gardens in North Wales while on holiday. Annoyingly I could only buy 2 as i had to carry them about half a mile back to the car and they weren't exactly light.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
  • Thank you so much Fairygirl and Lyn.  I have tried our local garden centres but with no joy. I will try the online shops you have suggested Lyn. Many thanks.

The ones I bought are identical to these in medium (but were half the cost)

We don't have Wyvale  up here, but as they're being taken over, you might get a bargain there Tracey  :)
I got my alpine pan locally, but it has now fallen apart due to weather. Shame, as it was rather nice, and I've had various displays in it over the years.

    Those look nice w.edges   :)

I bought six of these last week from my local garden centre because I am going to plant them up with spring bulbs for Christmas presents. Perhaps not as good quality as the one above but the same shape and size . Cost me I think £6 each. I swithered over half pans or these but these look prettier.

I was after these for alpines, then dwarf irises, had given up, then met up with my daughter at her local Notcutts garden centre, got one same as that £24.99 for a tenner, and no it wasnt a sale, last week had ready mix concrete delivered for base of summerhouse, you have to buy a minimum 1 sq.mt, bit left over, Hubby used our recycling box, and a smaller one, to make an alpine trough which has now been planted up with more dwarf irises!

Dirt cheap 20cm terracotta pots from the poundshop.
Have four as herb pots by the back door, these three will be planted with iris reticula, crocus and narcissus.

They're brilliant Kitty. Wish we had a pound shop nearby!
I  have some of those shallower bulb pans too, which have sempervivums in them. I'm going to get a few more for bulbs as I'm doing a  shelf near the back door which will also do for small plants and cuttings throughout the year.  I'll get enough little pots so that they all have a similar look.  :)
