Can you identify this plant please ?

Hello, please can you identify this plant.  It is self seeded and has come up this year in my gravel garden. Thanks for your help.

    It can get quite big, so if you don't want it, better to pull it out quickly.

    Or keep it under control by removing one third on the older canes each year.

    It's a bit like buddliea in that respect: keep it under control  and it's a lovely thing, but left to get out of hand, they're just plain ugly brutes.

  • Thanks for your help.  Bees are enjoying this plant at the moment but will prune it in the spring.  Will remove seed heads before then as another plant has now appeared in my front garden.

    The seedlings are easily removed as soon as you spot them so if you can leave the seeds for the birds, all the better.
