I agree with all the comments so far I have one large clump in a border which I split and placed a couple of pieces off this one in a walled border. After two years I now have a lovely clump in the wall, so I think yours will grow on and become a large plant as before. Your friends have paid you a lovely complement in leaving you some of the contents of their garden. I was gifted some plants and a lovely statue by two of our best friends, its a great way to remember them.
I was speaking to their son again yesterday and he almost pleaded with me to take some of the garden tools. If I don't have them they are going in the skip. I had another dig through them (pardon the pun) and have now taken a pair of Fiskar edging shears and Fiskar loppers, a beautiful wooden handled stainless steel garden fork which I hadn't previously noticed, a long handled trowel and a lethal looking metal pointed dibber.
The son works extremely long hours, often away from home, and they now have a buyer for the house. The other brother lives abroad but is coming back again for a couple of weeks to help finish clearing the house. They simply don't have the time to go searching for people who might be able to make use of remaining items.
Their father was an engineer and had a lot of old tools, in very good condition. I tried contacting a local preservation society to see if they could make use of them and they never even bothered to reply!
