  • They are roots growing. If you cut that bit off and pot it up it will grow.
It's why it's called the Friendship plant or Money Tree, it just keeps on making more!

Crassula ovata if you want to avoid confusion with other 'money plants'. You're probably under watering it or not feeding it enough so it's trying to get more from elsewhere.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
  • Wow! Well I never! Thanks so much - I thought it was something bad. Would it be best to do that then, or just leave it as is?

As we go out of summer now you'll need to cut down on watering and feeding anyway, don't let them get too dry but not too wet either. I usually stop watering altogether in November and then give them a really good soak mid December which can spur them into flowering. Next spring you can start feeding with a specialist liquid feed and get into a better watering regime letting it dry out them soaking it. You should notice an improvement in the plant. Don't be afraid to prune them though, my local garden centre has one about 5' tall with a trunk you couldn't get both hands around.

I have one that's over 30 years old and I've never seen a flower :/
    Am I missing something spectacular?
    In London. Keen but lazy.

My biggest one flowers like crazy every December into January. Big umbels of tiny white flowers. They make a real mess when they die off though sadly which is the only downside. That plant gets watered straight from the fish tank so it's well fed.

Drab little white florets with an unpleasant odour !
Not something you'd glance at twice ; my nominee for one of the worlds most boring plants !! :)
