Bulbs planted too shallow

Hi everyone.
I think I planted my allium bulbs too shallow (maybe about two/3 inches deep and I just read it should be 30cm). And now that I've planted them I can't remember where they all are 😳
To correct this, could I just put some new compost over the top of the soil?
Thanks!

I wouldn't worry too much. Mine reproduce like weeds and the "naturally planted" bulbs are all near the surface.

Try not to worry too much as Posy already mentioned.
Also 30cm seems a little deep, that is one foot deep in old money. Perhaps you got muddled, or bad info. Or a (30cm) deep container so you thought they should be that deep?
Take a little look at this topic and see Pete8's daffodil bulb pot, there are two photos he included of it in flower and how shallow some bulbs are before he tops it off with new compost.

Unless your alliums are a giant of some kind :)

  • Thanks everyone. Sounds like it shouldn't be too much of a problem then.
    They are allium 'Purple Sensation'
  • Ooo! I've just planted mine this morning! I've put them down as far as the daffs! Hubby has just walked in with some heathers for me,I told him yesterday that the bees were buzzing round me asking what I'd done with the lavender,so really the Heather is for the bees!!

Allium purple sensation should be about 6 inches deep. Shallow planting means that the bulbs tend to split into lots of little ones after the first year.
