What type of bee is this?

Hi all, can any of you please identify what types of bees are in my photos? They're by the coast in Ireland, if that helps!

Thanks

  • I think this might be the white-tailed bumble bee.  Common in gardens and a useful pollinator.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Very hard to tell from the pics sorry. Could be one of a number of similar species. White-tailed is a good call or buff-tailed, garden bumblebee or even broken belted bumblebee, they all look superficially similar. There's also a number of cuckoo bees that imitate all of the above. Even experts need to stuff them into test tubes for an exact ID sometimes.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
