@Tin pot I have a slight nagging feeling mine might do the same... it will be interesting to try it nevertheless - although, with mine being in the front garden near the pavement and in full sight, I may lose patience quickly! One of them has already found its way up through between the gutter and the fascia ...will be pruning tomorrow :)

Good morning! Some updates, would appreciate any comments on identity or what is happening :)

@Marlorena just highlighting your name, would appreciate any comments :)

The roses seem to have three different colours?

And it is still doing that sprouting thing; some of the offshoots did have flowers on the stems, but all lower down, the rest just shoots up

Should I just prune it back lower down?

@sabeeha … yes, as said earlier in the thread, that's wild rose rootstock you're nurturing there...  you will get those pretty flowers, some white, some pink.. and hips in autumn... but those tall lanky shoots at the top will not flower until next year.. I would prune them all off back to just above the top flowers, so you are left with a rounded bush... otherwise it will just get bigger and bigger and cover your windows in time..

I should also add that, this pruning will be an ongoing thing each year... it will continue to send out more long shoots, especially after removing the tall ones..

...it's quite a pretty wild rose, with hips, but most of us who grow roses would probably remove it... so this is a decision for you, whether you think it's worth keeping..

    Thank you!

Some of the lanky shoots had flowers lower down, so I was confused

I do actually like it when it has hips as opposes to when it is in flower!

yes. the hips are nice on these wild roses... it has its place... usually best in wilder areas of gardens...  I hope you continue to enjoy your rose...
