Thank you i know the one in the local shop was 500 euros and it didn’t do What I wanted. Problem is I have a very large garden renting one is 450 euros per day plus delivery.so was looking for a long term solution.
If you have a very large garden, two possible choices. make a pile in a hidden corner, leave them to rot. Great for insects, or, get the branches removed whole.
Doesn't 'importing' woodchip bring a risk of things like honey fungus with it? I'd go with the wildlife log pile option or use the logs for firewood and add the ash to the compost. Woodchip will slow your compost right down and mean you have to have more heaps/bins to deal with the minimum 2 year compost time to deal with it.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
We bought a chipper for OH to cut up smaller branches to make wood chip for mulch when we moved here nearly 2 years ago. Didn't want to spend a fortune on a huge machine we might end up not using much.
Bigger branches from felling 2 sick ash trees and tidying up other trees are currently piled up awaiting being chopped for firewood and make a fine playground for lots of small birds and, no doubt, shelter for insects and maybe hedgehogs. Some will no doubt end up as a permanent insect shelter but in a slightly less conspicuous spot.

You could maybe venture into Hugelkultur! This uses slowly rotting wood as the foundation of a sort of raised bed that reportedly gives good results.
I am experimenting with the idea, as I too have lots of middle size branches, more than I have time to cut up, as I don't trust myself with a chainsaw.
I also have an area below our big dam that has been partially filled with compost over the years and now has fantastic soil. I want to extend this to use for veg growing, so am adding wood , branches and brash as a bottom layer, then covering with grass cuttings, garden waste and the contents of the sheep shed. Looking good so far.
