Lily Beetle

  • Ive had lilies in my garden for over 13 years and have never had a problem with lily beetles, until this year. They ruined all my lilies. One lily didn't even flower all the leaves were stripped off.

We don't get too troubled by them either P.gardener, but strangely, it was only one stand that was affected. The white ones were all untouched, whether in pots or in the ground. In a previous garden I had one or two, but the lilies were always fine, no grubs munching, or maybe so few it didn't matter.
I don't know if our climate here doesn't suit them normally, as the summers tend to be  quite cool and wet. This year was very unusual, with very high temps and long dry spells, as with the rest of the UK, so perhaps that's the reason. Who knows!
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I find they can be controlled by pyrocamphia bug killers
Where do you buy that, I can’t find anything on the net about it?   Is it harmless to other insects, bees etc?

Neither can I Lyn ! Never heard of anything like that ; every time I search the web , Pyracantha shows up !
    ZZ 1 : WHAT IS IT ????????

  • Thanks all for you input. I have not heard of pyrocamphia either. I ended up holding a tissue under the leaf  the beetle was on caught it and stood on it.Removed the lilies from pots and garden.Checked them washed soil from them and stored them for winter
