What is this? Concerned...

Hoping you can help me ID this plant that was growing in a shady bit of my new garden... it is elsewhere also and looks a little dodgy! It hasn’t flowered in the nearly year I’ve been here and hasn’t grown much but looks healthy

Looks like a poor specimen of Helleborus foetidus.
  • It's ok! It's Helleborus foetidus and has green flowers with reddish petal edges in February/March. It seeds itself around if it's happy, but is not really invasive and is easy to recognise if you don't want it where it chooses to grow. :)

    Were you worried it's cannabis?
    I wish I was a glow worm

Its Helleborus foetidus, a native plant which provides valuable food for early flying insects. tolerant of dry shade.

I certainly wouldn't be worried if cannabis grew in my garden ! ;)
  • Thanks all.

I expect it seeded itself and wasn’t in a very good position, now I know it’s not illegal I’ll plant it somewhere it’ll be happier...and I can be sure I’ll not be arrested!
