Monty Don was sowing seeds last week then said the plants would not flower until 2020, well being impatient I am thinking of buying a plant. Has anyone else grown these? I have a long dry flower bed which already has a Buddleia and Bridal Wreath.
Hi grajean , I grow a couple of variety's - Anne and Delavayi there is quite a selction of variety's . The bad news for you is they prefer moist soil, dry flower bed not ideal. Maybe you could dig in plenty of organic matter to help retain moisture.
I have around 10 Delavayi here and there. The best (and about 10 yrs old) is in moist soil, shaded by a huge rhododendron and does very well - around 7ft high this year. Others are in fairly dry soil that have been manured quite regularly. They have also done well and got to over 6ft, but not as floriferous. I've read they can be divided, but none of mine seem to have more than one stem, even the 10 year old one. I'm going to try and save seed later (the pods are still green) and sow as Monty did.
