Watering never gets things as wet as a week of proper rain
Gardening on the edge of Exmoor, in Devon

Raisingirl's right - nothing soaks ground the way the sky does  :)
I mulched a while ago - I'd just planted up a new border in about three goes, and the rain arrived at the right time, every time, for adding mulch.  :)
MInd you - I could easily mulch over dry ground. The rain would still get through to the underlying soil.... ;)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I guess it depends.  I’ve put a mulch into planters at any time as they dry out so quickly.

Ive put an evergreen mulch on my hydrangea the other week because that’s when I created it.

My back garden borders I will likely do next weekend.

My front garden gets smothered in leaves over the next few months so I’ll be raking that off and mulching much later in the year.

Well this is 2 days of solid rain we're having now. Mulch might be going down soon.

Almost a pity as the vanilla marigolds are still blooming very well and I'll have to remove them all.

Spoke too soon. I've finished mulching today but since my last post it's been uncharacteristically dry with nothing more than a light drizzle. Soaked the ground as best as I could as I wasn't waiting any longer.

Never got round to mulching last Autumn so will try and give it a go in Spring if there's room around the bulbs coming through.

I suppose that's an argument for getting it done in Autumn if you have a lot of Spring bulbs!
