That's wheat. A bird feeder escapee I imagine. You've probably got just enough to make yourself a corn dolly there.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
  • Eh? So dig it out?
  • Just pull it up - wheat isn't deep rooted.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • Ah, you're right. Bird feeder just 10 yards away. Thank you.

I'd leave it to ripen, it's basically free bird food. The sparrows love to pick mine clean and the voles pick up anything they drop.

Corn dollies are a traditional country craft thingy. The last few ears of wheat from the harvest were fashioned into some kind of fancy shape (often a lady hence the doll name). It was given all kinds of stories as lucky charms etc but was probably just something to keep your hands occupied while you relax after the harvest drinking scrumpy in a field.
