Jasmine and honeysuckle growing together

Hi

I’ve come to a garden which has a very old honeysuckle growing up a wall and there seems to be a jasmine literally growing out of the old stump of the honeysuckle.  This jasmine just pushes out leggy branches and has not flowered for the 5 summers I’ve been here; what should I do?  It annoys me that it gives so little.  The garden is small, so I want the walls to have something really lovely on them.  The think stem of the honeysuckle isn’t very attractive but I’ve got a clematis growing up that now, however, the jasmine gets in the way. Any advice?

  • I think I’d layer some of the honeysuckle shoots to create new plants.  Then when they’ve rooted I’d pot them up , dig out all the old plants , revitalise the bed and replant using the new plants. That way you'll
get a much better effect in the end.  :)
