Roses

I have a shrub rose called Mother’s Day and the last few years it has grown quite tall. We gave it a hard prune in the spring hoping this would solve the problem. It has grown one very tall again, with one stem getting to 7.5 feet!
How can I stop this from happening?

Instead of pruning those tall stems,  bend them over and peg the ends to the ground to form an arch.  This will then stimulate shorter shoots with more flowers next year.

Good luck.  I did it with some Sceptr' Isle roses that got over excited and unruly.  loads more flowers than before and it also seemed to settle them down.   I only did for 2 seasons then pruned normally in spring and they grew more bushily.   might have been coincidence tho.
