Which grass seed?

I need to re seed some bare lawn patches and was wondering which seed to use. I don't need it to look like 'Wimbledon', it doesn't get a lot of 'traffic' as I don't have any pets or children using it. Thanks

Lots of patching mixes on the market  have a look at the boxes as they usually give you helpful info on the grass mix and what sort it will be  such as fine, utility, hard wearing etc. Amazon is a good place to look for information.
How big an area? In shade or mostly sunny.

Patches will always look different unless you exactly match the seed, which is impossible in most gardens. The best you can do is roughly rake over an area bigger than the patch, and seed the whole area so you get an area where it blends in with existing lawn.

When you top dress, do that before seeding, then once you've scattered seed on top, lightly rake over the dressing and the seed so they mix in a bit. This improves germination.

You shouldn't need to water this time of year.

I get good seeds from a1lawns. They've a good selection and it's better quality than DIY sheds or ebay.

Sorry, but I am still confused as to which type of grass seed to buy! Do i want Is rye or not? Lawn is in the sun most of the day, although there are times when some parts are in the shade. T i a

Since you don't have any special requirements just get the cheapest/first one you find. Wilkos/BM bargains/The Range etc. Follow Glasgowdan's advice re raking and overseeding.

I'd agree with Will. It doesn't  have to be fancy if you simply want 'grass'.  I did exactly that for my new back lawn, sown a few years ago in similar conditions to yours [this pic was the following year]  It still looks ok now, despite builders trampling over it, and a lack of rain last summer :)

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
