What's happened to my Sedum Matrona?

CraighBCraighB Posts: 758
Hi guys,

I planted a Sedum Matrona in a large container with other plants as part of a display However I have noticed that the Sedum has been dropping leaves for a couple of months now and doesn't look at all healthy! All the leaves go slightly floppy and just drop off. What could be wrong with it?

Thanks

Possibly overwatering. The other inhabitants in the pot may need more water than the sedum.

I'm inclined to agree with fidget. It looks very wet. They need really good drainage if they get a lot of water. If you've been watering a lot to compensate for the dry conditions experienced in summer, it will have had a negative effect on the sedum, causing it to grow bigger and more lush too. It then makes it hard for the stems to support the top growth.
Quite a lot of slug/snail damage there too. You can cut them back and they come away again quite readily.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I did water the pot a lot during the summer heat so yes I think your right. Will the plant recover if I stop watering or is it better to take the Sedum out and put it in its own pot?
  • It would be better in its own pot, with some gritty compost and a nice covering of grit to set off the dark leaves. A sunny spot will help improve the colour too. :)
