Misshapen Fiesta Apple Tree

Hello,

We have inherited what looks like a misshapened Fiesta apple tree since moving. Its producing fruit as you can see but the branches look sparse. Is it supposed to look this way? Is there any way I can prune next year encourage more growth towards the top?

Thanks
Jade

Its a young tree. You could either prune the lax branches to around a foot so they are sturdier, or train them up canes to form a large open goblet. It is a spur bearer , so I would summer prune it now to encourage fruiting spurs in Spring.
