establishing a new lawn in spring

Hi,

i'm starting a new garden for my dementia gardening group, its a flower garden with a oval central lawn area, however I won't be able to start on the prep until November, i'm assuming that's way too late to sow seed ( I don't have the money for turf),

so the question is, when is the earliest I can sow seed next year?

It really depends on the climatic conditions TH. Most grass seed needs a soil (not air) temperature of 9C to germinate. It’s often very tempting when we get a nice spring sunny day in March to sow grass seed but invariably the ground temps won’t be up enough and will dip significantly at night.

April is generally a good time. Keep an eye on the forecast.
