Over wintering a Daisy & Salvia Amistad plant.

Hi all, I'm currently preparing for the winter ahead. Firstly this Daisy plant. Can it stay out in the border over winter?  I'm not 100% what kind it is. I have 2 and they have grown huge over the summer so heaven knows where I'm going to put them in winter if I have to lift them.

Secondly I have a Salvia Amistad. After loosing a beautiful one last year to frost ive started again. I'm unsure if to lift it or I have fleece to cover it over winter. I have took cuttings just in case but would love to hear your opinions. Thanks in advance.

The first one is an argyranthemum. Take cuttings or lift it and keep it cool but frost free over winter. Salvia amistad can be left in the ground, but they flower earlier if they have been lifted and also kept frost free.

Agree with the above post ; I've never grown the first , but I've managed to keep S.'Amistad' for five years !
I remove all foliage to the base in late autumn and plant in a large pot . This is then kept nearly dry all winter in an unheated greenhouse .

PS Hope the Melocactus is OK !
  • Hi @Paul B3 that's great thank you.  I don't want to loose another salvia so I'll lift it. Having to look at buying another plastic greenhouse now. 😂

Mr Melocactus has been brought in to the house now as it's become a little chilly up North here over the past week. He's sitting near a sunny windowsill sipping only rainwater occasionally thanks to you. I think he's finished flowering.
Hope the greenhouse prep is going well.

I have so much to sort out work-wise etc , plus numerous jobs in my own garden , I havn't even thought about my own greenhouse yet !
Hope the mild(ish) weather continues .
