Jade Tree Care

Need help with my baby Jade. She is struggling mightily. I suspect rot root. Any suggestions or ideas would be very much appreciated.

  • How often do you water it? The compost looks as if it could be quite wet,
I have 2 small plants on a sunny windowsill and they only get watered about once every couple of weeks, or when the leaves start to shrivel. They are doing fine, planted in poor gritty soil and thrive on neglect!

Probably too wet and not enough bright light !
If mine I would cut off all stems to base ,clean old compost from the roots , replant in a gritty well draining medium & place in a sunny position , keep slightly damp and hope for the best .
It should re-grow from any sideshoots it develops . Just like pruning a rose ! ;)
  • I agree. I treat mean.  Mine dries out completely  and only gets watered from the base  (so it only takes up what is needed) every month. If you do cut it back plant the cuttings and you'll get loads more.

If you don't want to buy separate john innes no2 and sharp grit then just get a sack of specialist cactus/succulent compost. They always do better when you cover the exposed soil with a layer of pebbles though and it looks better. Don't water for a week after repotting to allow any broken roots to heal before getting wet.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
  • thanks for the tips. I usually water her about once every two-three weeks. Will let her dry out two more weeks than see if there are any improvements. If she still sags I will repot her in some cactus soil, check to see if any roots are rotten and prune her.
