I had one for many years and my soil is only very slightly acidic. It didn't thrive, but it did ok

I have several in alkaline clay soil and they are thriving, nobody told them they like acid soil  ;)

  • Thank you. Mine is not in acid soil at the moment but doesn’t seem to grow so I thought that might be the reason why.  Perhaps I’ll just give it a feed.

I wouldn't feed it at this time of year - wait until spring
A mulch around the base would be good now

My Nandina grows in slightly alkaline freeing draining soil. It sat looking a bit sad for a couple of years then suddenly took off and looks great all year round showing changing leaf colours at different times. I can’t remember the variety. I only give it a mulch of leaf mould in the spring.  Maybe yours is just getting its roots down?
  • Thank you, patience maybe is all that’s needed!
