The roots like to be damp. You could achieve that by putting some bark or pebbles in the bottom of the glass and keeping it wet at the bottom. A regular misting with rainwater will help too.
  • These are air roots and quite natural. These should not be covered up. As your orchid is in a coloured pot not a clear one they are looking for light and will use these roots to get moisture from the air. Looking at the base of the leaves, a picture of the whole plant would help, it looks healthy.
  • Thanks for that = should I remove the plastic pot and just leave the orchid in the glass jar.

I don't recommend that. The plastic pot helps to keep water from collecting. Ideally, they can be planted into a clear plastic pot of similar size, but it is not a serious issue.

Do as recommended by Figetbones, lay a layer of pebbles. The glass container is far too big for the roots. They don't mind being restricted, and may rot in too much compost. As for the air roots, all fine and no need to remove.
  • Thanks a mill everyone.   I have taken the plunge and re potted my orchids and fingers crossed I did not make a mess of it.
  • Hi = my re potting of my orchids worked  <3    Can some one tell me should i leave the bare stalks of the orchid - see pic .   There is a new shoot coming up so do I just leave the bare stalk to look after itself.
