The roots like to be damp. You could achieve that by putting some bark or pebbles in the bottom of the glass and keeping it wet at the bottom. A regular misting with rainwater will help too.
These are air roots and quite natural. These should not be covered up. As your orchid is in a coloured pot not a clear one they are looking for light and will use these roots to get moisture from the air. Looking at the base of the leaves, a picture of the whole plant would help, it looks healthy.
I don't recommend that. The plastic pot helps to keep water from collecting. Ideally, they can be planted into a clear plastic pot of similar size, but it is not a serious issue.

Hi = my re potting of my orchids worked Can some one tell me should i leave the bare stalks of the orchid - see pic . There is a new shoot coming up so do I just leave the bare stalk to look after itself.
