sweet corn

Hello my sweet corn grew very tall it had tassels and silks what worry me is silk some of them going brown and just come off in my hands, what worries me they got a little hole at top of corncob where the silk was I know those  slugs might get in I did spray with a slug killer. My sweetcorn did so well but now what to do.

  • If the tassels are dark brown then it's probably time for harvesting.  If you're unsure you can peel back the skin and take a look at what's inside, if it looks good, pick it.  It's past the point of pollination now so if the corn isn't grown or nearly-grown it's unlikely to.

I'd advise that you don't spray any such thing on to something that you're planning to eat.  The best thing to do with slugs is leave somewhere they can't resist hiding, and then move them on during the day, or go out in the evening and catch them red-handed.

I'm sorry but I wouldn't eat them if you've sprayed them with slug killer, it might not be safe.
