Container advice

I have a mahonia 'soft caress' and a dark purple heuchera to put in a pot together but I want a third occupant - any suggestions?

@Steve , watch out for vine weevil in a container with Heuchera.
    Devon.
  • My only issue with a nice yellow grass is that the mahonia will flower yellow too?
  • I don't know however having seen pics of @Hostafan1 and @Fairygirl's gardens, I'd do what they say and then go...Oh how lovely. They were right.

Very kind of you Ppauper   :)
I don't have the Caress Mahonia Steve, but I assume it flowers in winter like the others. It gives you a link between the two plants, and they will both work well with the Heuchera,  but the Mahonia won't have flowers when the Hack is growing.
I meant to suggest adding some early bulbs [ yellows and whites to tie them in] in at the same time as the Hack is deciduous. Mine doesn't start into growth till about May or so, but continues till well into autumn. I have crocus under it. Lovely plant.
Alternatively, you could have something greener, but with a big foliage contrast to the other two plants. Or plum, but with a contrasting foliage.
I'd need to think about that one! Maybe a Hellebore?

I was going to suggest a hellebore. Nice contrast in shape.
Weeds are flowers, too, once you get to know them.”

  • @Hostafan1 why do vine weevils go for heucheras in pots? I’ve put all my heucheras in pots this year - they do so much better than in my sandy soil - been flowering their socks off since spring 😀
  • Soft Caress flowers in the autumn, hence my concern.
