Leylandi Hedge Problem

My leylandi hedge has large brown patches and looks dead in places.  I cut the hedge midweek and used a hard brush to get rid of the brown needles following an article I saw on U Tube.  Will my hedge recover or will I have to remove it?

    You've either cut too far back into old wood, or the Leylandii has Cyrpus Aphid which can cause it to die back.  Leylandii also suffer from Honeyfungus but my guess is that's not this as the plants in a hedge slowly die one by one as the fungus travels thru' the soil.  As Nutcutlet has said, it won't grow back so unless you want to live with brown patches, you might want to remove it.  If you and you want a hedge back in the same place, go for yew - it will regrow from old wood.  It is also slower growing so although it might take longer to get to the height of your old hedge, will require less maintenance, can be good for wildlife (berries for birds in winter) and as I said, can regrow from old wood so you won't end up with brown patches if you do go a bit mad with the hedge trimmer.
