Suggested Hardy Climbing Rose

This is my front garden in June. My entrances are to the right (lower and upper including the staircase). The rambling red rose came with the house but I put in the arch. I have a rambunctious white clematis that grows up the rose and the Rose of Sharon trees to the left. Last year I planted a blue Arabella clematis on the right side of the arch but really want another climbing rose to balance things. There's not much space and most of my flowers are blues and whites so I'm looking for suggestions for a hardy white rose (or maybe pale pink) that would bloom later or continuously. Ideally it is fragrant too.

Below are images of the two clematis and the rose. The garden faces west. Normal temperature ranges from over 30C in summer to -25C in winter.

Thanks!

I guess you're not in the UK with temps as low as -25c - this website is UK based, but we have members from many parts of the world.
One of the most renowned suppliers of roses in the UK is David Austin.
You could start here, by seeing which roses are suitable for your climate.
Then you can see which roses you like and use filters (on the left of the page) to narrow down your search
    Happy hunting!

It sounds as though you're in zone 5...  look for 'Above And Beyond' it's hardy to zone 3...so will be cane hardy in your zone...  white with apricot tints...

  • Hi yes, I'm in southern Ontario in Canada and it's zone 5 although I have a bit of a microclimate close to the house. Even though Gardeners World magazine and TV are UK they provide lots of inspiration and information for me.

Thanks for the idea of Above and Beyond. It's not one I've heard about.

I love the David Austin roses but they can be hard to find here. I've looked into the Canadian "Explorer" series but none seem exactly what I want in this location. I'll check out the link and see if I can order in one of the David Austens that will work here.

Most of those 'Explorer' roses are pink, I do  love 'John Davis', it's almost thornless and so floriferous... I used to have 'William Baffin', that's a monster, pink again, and a bit unruly..
I hope you find something, I thought you must be in Canada... it's a tough zone for roses as whilst they will survive, so many will be cut to the ground in winter, but grow back again in Spring, so they turn to the Explorer series... exceptionally hardy roses..

If your microclimate edges towards zone 6 you have many more options and most Austin's would be ok... most of them will survive at zone 5 but may not be cane hardy, that seems to be the issue for many people...   do try and seek more local advice if you can...
