Odd rose flower size

Hello all,
I've  had quite a few rose buds opening lately on a David Austin climbing rose but the flowers are opening to no bigger than the height  and width of a thumbnail. Absolutely tiny. Any ideas what's going on with it , could it be heat related I wonder ?

Are they definitely coming from the plant and not the rootstock? Are they the colour you'd expect?
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • Hi,
Yes same colour and flowering all over the plant on established branching so definitely not a sucker ! It flowered normally earlier in the season, then nothing during the heatwave, then this !

Do you know what variety it is? Some roses come in sprays of small flowers.

My new David Austin Pilgrims are tiny too (their first year) - maybe half a finger length. About 1/3 smaller that the pictures show.
