Rose question - I'm confused!

You know that thing about not planting a rose where a dead rose has been. What if the climber is mature and reasonably healthy and you want to plant a shrub rose in front of it? Is that ok?
The shrub rose has been in a container for a couple of years

I wouldn't hesitate ... just prepare the planting place well ... fish blood & bone etc.   :)

and of course make sure you're giving them both enough room  :)

This spring I planted two roses where roses had been and they are growing very well. I prepared the ground well.
