Railway sleepers down, now which plants to buy. Help!

    No, theoretically you should wait at least six months before adding fresh manure to allow it to rot down completely. if you plant straight into it, it is said to be too strong for new plants and might scorch the roots.  If you do want to plant asap, then I would get the bags of manure from a GC, they sometimes do special offers or say 3 for £15 round here.

    Yes - get some from a GC, as Lizzie says. Unless 'fresh stuff' has been sitting around for a good 6 months, it's too fresh if you want to plant anything in the near future.
    A good mix of the three [manure, topsoil and compost] will give you a good medium.
    If you want to get bulbs in for some spring colour, you can always put those in pots, and just sit those in the beds, and then plant them out afterwards. 


    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
