Woodland Primroses

Fran IOMFran IOM Posts: 2,872
I bought some woodland primroses online last year and it was well worth it when they flowered this Spring under the apple tree. When they died off at the end of Spring/early Summer I split them and cut away the dead leaves awaiting next Spring. Now they have suddenly taken on a new lease of life and are full of lovely new green leaves and look as though they could start flowering again. My primulas, which I also thought were dormant, have started flowering again. I have not known this to happen before. Is it unusual? Would be interesting to know if others are experiencing the same.

Mine did the same a couple of autumns ago and flowered  from autumn right through the following spring  :)

not unusual at all, they'll flower again at the usual time whatever they do now. I have some little red ones just coming up to flower

Thanks Dove. I do hope that's the case with mine as it will make a much brighter winter.  :)

I have mainly native prims - many flowering just now. Quite normal for them here. Lovely  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

It's good to hear that others have the same. Looks like I won't need to buy plants to fill the space I thought they would leave until next Spring. I also had "creeping buttercup" or celandines (don't know which they are) which I had to control and it looks like they are going to start up again too. If they do and I can't get to them during the winter they  could have taken over the allotment by next Spring!
