When to plant Privet cuttings?

Sam76Sam76 Posts: 151
I am looking to plant a Privet hedge from cuttings but am not sure if I should try it now in August/September or wait until November/Winter-time. What would be best?

Hi Sam - are the cutting in pots, and what sort of size are they?
I'd think you could plant now as long as they're a decent size and have a good root system, and as long as your site is suitable and well prepped. It's pretty tough stuff  :)

Thanks Fairygirl! I haven't even cut them yet- i was waiting to see what to do first. A lot of advice says to wait until november and i don't want to waste the cuttings. Though i am not very patient lol

Ah - I thought you already had a load of cuttings growing!
Patience is harder to cultivate than the privet..... :D

Cut the bits now, bring on in pots then plant out anytime you fancy, after they’re well rooted of course.

I have some established privet plants growing alongside the cuttings. When should i cut these plants back to encourage growth from the bottom? March?

@Sam76 As you asked another question on a completed thread it hasn't been picked up. The answer may be in previous postings.
