Pear tree problem

Good evening all, new member to the forum here. I have a problem with my dual pear tree, it keeps producing plenty of fruit but they are always dry, hard and tasteless. I have the tree in full sun, trained along wires. In north east Scotland.  I pick the pears when they come off easily and tried them in paper bag, in the fruit bowl and just on a worktop but nothing seems to work. Any help or info would be great, thanks.

Welcome. Do you know the variety?
  • It is conference, and the other is a red flesh not sure what variety. The tree is about 10 years old.

I understand it is very tricky to get pears to ripen just right for eating. I think Alan Titchmarsh once recommended that after you pick them, keep them in a cool, dry place. Then two or three at a time bring them out into a warmer room for 2-3 days. They then turn just the slightest pinky tinge and go a little bit soft by the stalk/and/or start to smell juicy and they're ready to eat. We tried this and it does work but not if you then forget they're in the garage like we did!
