Doubt about lemon tree shape

Hi everyone,
I'm new to this, so please forgive any mistakes
I have a lemon tree that I started from a cutting (picture below). The thing is that for a time it wasn't doing much but then it grew a branch from the side and that's now where most of the action is happening and on the other bit (right side) not as much. Do you think I should chop this one off and try to straighten the other part? Just wondering if that would help the tree to have a proper shape in the future.

Thanks :)

I'd cut that off as close to the vertical (wanted) trunk as you can with sharp secateurs and keep an eye out for similar growth from the base.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • No, sorry, I should have been clearer. I myself took the cutting and planted it, so its not grafted or anything. The shoot to the left is the same variety. What do you think of it shapewise?

Sorry, I missed that and edited my post but you must have seen the original. :)

  • Great then, thanks Bob!

Do you know if the original tree you took the cutting from was grafted?  If so, your tree may be a bit on the vigorous side.  If it starts growing like a monster, you can prune the roots and re-pot it to keep some control. :)

I would cut the left hand bit off near to the upright stem. The right hand bit should grow into a shrub shape.
