Spirea

harmonyharmony Posts: 403
I think this is Spirea Anthony Waterer if not please let me know.
I cut this back hard early spring because it was overgrown and woody with hardly any flowers ( like my hypericum hidcote )
It has flowered beautifully and looks rejuvenated so I am very pleased (and very relieved lol). So I need advice to keep it at its best.
Do I deadhead the spent flowers or leave them and any advice on future pruning will be appreciated. Thanks

I gather the whole plant up in a pony tail kind of arrangement, then cut the whole thing in half in one go . When you release it , it springs back into a nice natural shape.

Might try that with my hair save money on hairdressers and more to spend at the garden center lol.
Do you do this after flowering or in early spring?.

Sorry, I should have said. I do it just before you'd expect new growth. March ish, depending on your location.

    Thanks that helps
  • I gave mine a light trim after flowering and been rewarded with some minor reblooming.  My flowers seemed to be over very early this year though.
