Please identify this plant and advise

Afternoon all,

We have this plant in our front garden from when we bought our house.

We also had the same plant in our back garden but it was dying due to being heavily crowded out.

For this reason, I have dug it up and moved it to the front. It looks pretty sickly. But hopefully, it will prosper.

Firstly,  I would like to know its identity.

Secondly, would I help this plant by pruning it to encourage new growth. Or should I wait until next spring?

Many thanks

It's a shrubby Potentilla, easy shrubs to care for, give them some reasonable soil and a bit of sun and they just get on with it, flowering for most of the summer.
They can be trimmed back, but I don't do anything to mine as they don't get enormous.

If you have moved it recently it will be suffering from shock and trying to re-grow its root hairs to support all the top growth.   Keep it watered and cut back half the stems to reduce stress.

They're very forgiving shrubs, Christopher, so it will be perfectly happy with a haircut and a good watering in.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
