Hello, I thought this (see photo) was a type of clematis but i noticed 'fruits' growing. I googled and found it was a Passion flower. It's growing against a sunny fence and has self sown. Is it unusual for it to grow in the U.K.? Thanks.
What a fantastic picture Kate (welcome to the Forum by the way) and isn't that a beautiful plant. Passion flowers will grow in the UK (my Mum and Dad had one growing over their shed in North Wales) and I guess that our super Summer has led to fruit setting. The North Wales one produce loads of flowers but no fruit. I rescued a teeny tiny plant from a local supermarket and have got it growing up a Hydrangea seemanii on my garage wall. Its all of 30cm tall but its growing!

Thank you for your replies! Yes it's beautiful and I was so surprised to find out what it was. It seems very happy and has grown so quickly. Mum & Dad have taken cuttings and they are doing well. I think the fruits are edible so we will give them a try, I will let you know what it tastes like!
My late Aged Ps had one growing on the front of their house on the Suffolk coast ... it fruited most years ... Ma made a jelly one year but it wasn't anything amazing and she didn't bother in the following years ... I think they just look so fantastic hanging there like golden eggs ... I'd leave them and enjoy their beauty 'cos their flavour's nothing to write home about.
