Why do most of my husband's carrots and parsnips branch and twist? They are in raised beds, with no stones. He usually grows them from seed started in modules, or buys seedlings from nursery, and transplants them into the beds.

    They don’t transplant well, best to sow the seeds direct into the bed. Also they don’t like rich ground so don’t fertilise of feed.

    I agree with Lyn - probably the soil is too rich, and they don't like to be transplanted

    I thought that was probably the problem, but he has been growing them for years, and thinks it has worked before!
