Can anyone identify this please it was supposed to be a little pumpkin Jack o Lantern

    Hello Eila. It looks a little like a Patty Pan Squash. Its difficult to estimate it's size from your picture.

    I agree ... one of the Patty Pan type squashes. Jolly tasty. I grew some a couple of years ago. They were great. If they didn’t take up so much room I’d grow them every year.

    it fits on the palm of my hand at the moment how big should i let them grow ? 
    I was looking forward to mini pumpkins ! the seed was from ebay   :/

    They will still be tender at about 20cm - 25cm (4 inches in old money) and the whole thing can be eaten. It doesn't need peeling.

  • Hi Ella,
    They are yummy. I'm picking my at around 8-10cm in diameter and then chopping them in half and steaming them for a few minutes. They have a lovely flavour and texture to them. As others have said, they do mature into a large 'bush' - I'd estimate mine is around 2.5m in diameter. Enjoy! :-)
